Do I need experience to attend?
Not always. Some events are beginner-friendly while others are designed for intermediate or advanced players. Each event or class will clearly state the recommended experience level.

I’ve never played Mahjong before. Where should I start?
We recommend beginning with Mahjong 101, beginner virtual classes, or downloadable beginner guides designed to help you learn the fundamentals in a welcoming, approachable way.

Will I be able to play independently after Mahjong 101?
Mahjong 101 provides a strong foundation and overview of the game. Most players continue building confidence through Mahjong 102, beginner open play, and strategy-focused practice before feeling fully independent.

Do I need the current NMJL card?
Yes. We strongly recommend using the current National Mahjong League card for classes, strategy trainings, and gameplay. The NMJL Card changes every April 1.
